Hopefully we have some light at the end of the long COVID tunnel, the last 12 months have been unbelievably hard and affected everyone and for our kids it’s been really tough. Away from school, unable to see and meet family and friends, all clubs and sporting activities suspended, then back on then suspended again, they really have had it tough.
We’ve been lucky enough to get new strips for this season with the kind support of our sponsors
HD7 Phone Repairs and
#FORRONAN but even with that I still planned to do some fundraising to cover the shortfall in cost.
Every year we sell teas and coffees to raise funds for the team and buy training kit, tracksuit tops and have an end of season party, obviously that has all stopped.
As we hopefully come to the end of restrictions and some normality I really want to treat the boys, showing them that good things do still happen and show them that doing things for others is what we should all strive to do, especially in times like this. So my aim is to get them something for the season ahead. My initial thoughts are for winter bench coats to stop them freezing on the side-lines but we’ll decide as a group after the event how to best spend the money and what that is depends entirely on how much we can raise as a group.
So to that end we’ve decided to run a half marathon around the local area to raise funds:
The Event:
Saturday 5th June: 9.30am
Start: Top of Causeway Side, Linthwaite
Finish: The Leadboilers field, Linthwaite
Distance covered: Approx. 13.4 miles (slightly more than the 13.1 miles of a half marathon)
Route: Can be seen on the pictures (miles 10-12 are particularly horrendous)
I as coach will be running the full distance and will be joined for parts of it by players and parents. It’s really going to be a team event and challenge everyone. It’s not about a time (in my case more survival), it’s about the challenge, bringing the team together, and getting our whole group of players and parents involved and looking forward to the future. I’ve set up a money pool on PayPal to collect the sponsorship (you don’t need a PayPal account to donate)
The reason for this is that having looked at your traditional fundraising sites (Just giving, go fund me etc…) all appear to take a cut of 25p per donation and then between 1.9% and 2.9% on top, so off a £1 sponsorship we might have only received 72p!! By doing it via a money pool it ensures every penny generously sponsored goes straight to the team. Any sponsorship would be gratefully appreciated or if you can’t a share of the post would be great.
Thank you for reading this and thanks for your support.
